Retro Night Starring Cherries Jubilee
by September 15, 2010
FINAL TWO DINNERS! Tonight we have a Retro Dinner. I know we said no dinners whilst Culinary classes are happening but long story short, we double booked. As soon as the retro dinner is done we have a group of students coming for a full week. Then a themed dinner again (yikes) Una Noche Tranquila Spanish dinner and then another Culinary Week!
Next year we will be stricter about limiting the dinners! So tonight this dinner is great to prepare for a last minute special occasion. Reason I like it is that it is simple to do and all the items are prepared and cooked the day of the party.
The appetizer recipes are all on this website under "cooking club". The cheddar olives are in the freezer and they are great for popping into the oven for 20 minutes. Keep those puppies on hand!
The steak, pound it thin, add drops of oil and soy sauce and roll up and cover and you are good to go until the evening. Twice stuffed baked potatoes hold excellently, the Caesar Salad is prepared table side by Arthur (buwaaaahhaa my little scheme to get him to have to do some of the prep) and the Cherries Jubilee is easy fun and there is fire involved so everyone thinks it is special.
I love the music on this dinner. My favorite is playing the sound track from Beyond the Sea with Kevin Spacey. Beyond the Sea is a 2004 biographical film loosely based on the life of singer/actor Bobby Darin. Kevin Spacey, who stars in the lead role, used his own singing voice for the musical numbers.
OK... I better take some "dolls" and get my butt in gear! Stay tuned and we will let you know how it went.
Buen Provecho
